The inner palace grounds are not accessible to the public except on pre-arranged tours. The outer moats, gates and bridges, as well as the East Gardens (see below), however, can be seen free of charge.
Imperial East Gardens
The Imperial East Gardens are the only part of the inner palace area, which is open to the public. Among others, they feature Japanese and Western style gardens and the foundation of Edo Castle's former donjon. Please visit our Imperial East Garden page for more details.
Open 9:00 to 16:00 (until 15:30 from November to February). Closed on Mondays and Fridays. If Monday is a public holiday, the gardens will be open on Monday, but closed on Tuesday. Closed from December 28 to January 3. Admission is free.
